President's Message - January 2010

Firstly, a belated Happy New Year to you all. This is the first newsletter of my two year term as president of the Halifax Esso Annuitant Club. I feel privileged to be serving you and I look forward to working with the board and membership.
I hope that all who attended the Christmas function enjoyed it as much as I did, so I have included some photos as a reminder.

There is little doubt that the next two years will be a challenge as costs of socials increase and the total membership decreases. During the last two years we have been fortunate to attract some new members so it is not all doom and gloom! We have very capable people on the board who will collectively be working on ways to make sure the membership is served well and to ensure the long term survival of the club.

Your Board is geared up for the first social event of the year to be held at Banook Canoe Club on June 23. It will be a lobster lunch with steak for the non seafood eaters. More information will follow in the June Newsletter.

Memberships…….We currently have 91 active members and 100 paid members. In comparison, the Club had 103 active members in 2008 with a total of 113 paid members. The membership fee was maintained at $5.00 per person in 2010. It is anticipated that the membership will grow slightly over the next few months as additional members remit their annual fees to Neil MacKinnon.
