President's Message - January 2009

By the time you receive this newsletter I hope to be on my way to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a little sun and golf. So long snow and cold for now!!

Your Board is geared up for the first social event of the year to be held at Banook Canoe Club on June 24th. It will be a lobster lunch with steak for the non seafood eaters. More information will follow in the June Newsletter.

Our Special Feature Annuitant this Newsletter is Brian Maloney. The feedback on these features has been positive. We learn all sorts of new things about our fellow members that we otherwise would not have a chance to share. I remember when Brian used to come out to the Joint Industrial Council meetings when I was in the Gander territory in the early 70s.

We have been fortunate to have five new members join the club over the past two months. Many of you met John and Anne Marie Broussard at the Christmas Party. John worked prior to retirement for the Pipelines Division in Winnipeg. Don Parsons and his wife, Annette recently joined having retired from the Dartmouth Refinery on December 31, 2008. And Geoff Dawe from St. John's, NL was in town for lunch with some of the annuitants and expressed his interest in signing up and being on the mailing list. We look forward to getting to know each of the new members at the Banook lobster lunch.

All the best to each of you. Don't hesitate to call any of the Board members or send an email to me if you have any questions or concerns that we should address.

Yours sincerely,

Carl Brown
